Thank you for stopping by. I hope you sign up for my newsletter, and I look forward to sharing life with you.
From the time we're young children we're bombarded with negative experiences, personal or social. I write to remind children and adults that life IS good, but we need the mental tools to make it that way.
My first children's story, 'Sparrow and the Sheltering Tree' weaves a powerful message into the adventures of charming, lovable characters. It's been professionally edited and is being submitted to potential publishers. I'll keep you posted about its progress!
I have been teaching young readers for over 15 years. Professional training and experience in literacy and psychology give me insight to write stories that invite young people to become both intelligent readers and moral citizens. I leverage my life-long love of Earth, environmental degree and public school teaching experience to create characters with natural, multicultural appeal. Through Sparrow, her children, Owl and other loveable characters I address complex and confusing emotions a child may be experiencing due to life circumstances. My stories offer the comfort and hope that each of us needs during troubling times, especially children.
It really all began in 4th grade though, when Mrs. Bradley proclaimed during the parent conference that I had a gift and could be a successful writer someday. Being raised on a steady diet of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, I believed her. Handwritten journals of poetry were a common gift to my nearest and dearest during adolescence. Then again in graduate school a professor urged me to get published; she was so moved by my insightful prose. It is my habit to write every day, and my desire to benefit society through my written words as they are read for pleasure and then segue into meaningful dialogue.
